GHG Calculating (MES2303) introduces students to the fundamentals of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint, GHG accounting, and carbon management. The course explains how greenhouse gas emissions are generated from different activities, how they are classified into Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3, and how they are quantified using activity data, emission factors, Global Warming Potential, and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e). Students will also be introduced to recognised GHG accounting principles and reporting approaches, together with methods for identifying major emission hotspots. The course further develops students’ understanding of mitigation, decarbonisation, carbon neutrality, net-zero pathways, and basic GHG project development. Overall, the course guides students through the learning process of understanding, calculating, reporting, managing, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
